PAC - Committees Described

The PAC runs many committees to help make our school a better place for our children and their teachers. We always need help on the various committees - even if you only have an hour or two to help, it's always appreciated - and it's a great opportunity to help the school and get to know the families around you.

Please feel free to call the Committee chairperson if you wish to participate in any specific committee. Thank you to everyone who helps out. The following are our active committees:

Children's Programs
Bingo: Peggy Arcand - 604 277-6758
Crafts: Peggy Arcand - 604 277-6758
Library: Tracey Loewen - 604 275-2006

We have excellent noon hour programs for the children in Lord Byng and always need volunteers who are interested in coming to school at lunch time to assist. Currently we have Bingo on Mondays, Crafts on Thursdays and Library open every day.

Bingo - every Monday from 12:20-12:55, we have a group of primary students who come out for fun and prizes. All games are designed to ensure multiple winners and we are always in need of bingo prizes. Donations of small gifts, "loot bag leftovers" and recycled treasures are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the office. We could also use more parent volunteers either weekly, bi-weekly or monthly to help out by "calling" games, encouraging players or supervising the prize table. Please call Peggy if you would like to volunteer your time.

Crafts - every Thursday from 12:20-12:55, primary students join volunteers in the multi-purpose room for crafts. If you have a free Thursday lunch hour, please stop by the multi-purpose room and lend a hand. Peggy also needs help preparing the crafts in the evening prior to Thursday.

Library - every day from 12:30 to 1 pm, the library is open for the children to play board/card games, do homework, read and play computer games. In order for this to continue, we need one person each day to provide adult supervision. Any amount of time is appreciated. Call Tracey if you have some time available.

New ideas for lunch activities are always welcome. We can use your help one day a week or one day a month. Many hands make light work!

Communications
Website: Cheryl Schmidt - 604 271-3720
PAC Newsletter: Debra Murphy - 604 274-8581

The school website is maintained by Cheryl Schmidt. If you want to have something published on our website, please call or email Cheryl Schmidt. We are always in need of photos, but please note we are not allowed to publish photos of children.

The PAC newsletter, published monthly, is prepared by Debra Murphy. If you want to include something in the newsletter, please bring it to the monthly PAC meeting.

Early Warning
Melanie Ritchie - 604 275-8740

Early Warning is our school tracking system for students marked as an unknown absence by their teachers at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. If you have half an hour to spare in the morning or 15 minutes to spare in the afternoon, please call Melanie.

Emergency Preparedness
Ralston Camegie - 604 272-5863

Our Emergency Preparedness plan provides classrooms with duffle bags containing emergency supplies such as flashlights, medical kits, garbage bags and class lists. The plan also includes water supplies stored outside of the school. This plan has been in effect for many years and requires minimal maintenance. Call Ralston for more details. In addition to this, the office organizes a student comfort kit program.

Fundraising
Kari Van Hest - 604 244-0149
Ruca Abbott - 604 272-1428
Charmis DeBoer - 604 277-1655
This year, the fundraising committee has decided to try something different – we’re going to focus our fundraising efforts on three major social events: The Second Annual Christmas Craft and Book Fair, the Second Annual Parent Night Out and the Spring Dance. We hope all of you will support our fundraising efforts by attending these events. We do need volunteers to help us, before and during the events. We also ask parents who have contacts with businesses who may be able to donate items for our silent auctions and raffles to please contact us. Much of our anticipated profit will come from the sale of silent auction items – the more items we have, the more money we will make. We would also like to remind everyone that the PAC is a registered charity. We welcome donations of any kind and will gladly provide you with a tax receipt. If you wish to help us this year, please contact us at the email addresses or phone numbers listed above.

Grounds Enhancement
Mike Ball - 604 272-9491

The Grounds Enhancement Committee works with the staff to improve the appearance of our school. If you have any ideas or would like to help out, please call Mike.

Jeannette Smith - 604 448-9101
Debby Stone - 604 277-0468

Parent Education
Ruca Abbott - 604 272-1428

This committee organizes guest speakers of interest to our parents - sometimes a brief presentation before our monthly PAC meeting or sometimes a speaker on a subject that involves a whole evening in the school gym.

RDPA
Vicky Small - 604 277-0620

The Richmond District Parents Association is the Advisory Council for School District 38. Check out their website at: www.rdpa.bc.ca.

Social Committee
Dionne McFie - 604 271-0884

This committee organizes the Spring Dance, Family Skate and various other social functions. Call Dionne to find out when this committee meets. Ideas and volunteers are always welcome!

SPC Members
Linton Harrison - 604 271-4191
Gregg Landry - 604 448-1375
Dionne McFie - 604 271-0884

SPC's support the continuous improvement and performance assessment of students by engaging parents in an annual cycle of review and analysis that leads to the creation of a school-specific development plan.

Traffic Safety Committee
Margaret Choinski - 604 274-2253

The Traffic Safety Committee was formed this year to evaluate the traffic-related problems that our children encounter in and around the school every day.  The recommendations they are developing will form the basis of a submission for the STARS (Safer Traffic Around Richmond Schools) Initiative.  This will then be presented to Richmond's Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) comprised of representatives from the School Board, City Council and specific Departments, Richmond RCMP and Fire-Rescue, Richmond District Parent's Association and ICBC.
