SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

762006_112834_0.pngTo be socially responsible means you conduct yourself in a safe, responsible and respectful way. Being socially responsible as a student in British Columbia means that you are expected to: Contribute to the Classroom and School Community, Solve Problems in Peaceful Ways, Value Diversity and Defend Human Rights, and Exercise Democratic Rights and Responsibilities. The Ministry of Education in BC recognizes social responsibility as an important part of every child’s education. The long-term goal is to raise awareness and increase every student’s social responsibility to make for a more peaceful and productive society.

At Lord Byng Elementary we have made Social Responsibility a school goal for several years. We have created a Matrix for Behaviour which identifies what your child's behaviour should look like at different sites and at different times within the school. At Lord Byng we try to catch the students showing positive behaviour. Your child may receive 'Byngo Slips' for demonstrating positive behaviour at any time throughout their day. These slips are entered into a class draw and weekly winners are announced each Friday. The winners in each class receive a certificate and a group picture is taken to display on a bulletin board in the hallway.  The Matrix for Behaviour defines simple ways in which your child can be socially responsible at Lord Byng Elementary. We encourage you to become familiar with the matrix and encourage your child to be respectful, be responsible and be safe. At Lord Byng we pride ourselves on 'B'yng the best you can be'.
