| Portfolio Expectations
While the Graduation Portfolio is not mandatory for those students currently planning to graduate during the 2006/07 school year, the Ministry intends to proceed with a Review over the next few months to determine if the Portfolio is accomplishing what was intended. There is no plan to alter the delivery of Planning 10 and as such, students will be expected to meet the intended learning outcomes as prescribed. Students enrolled in grades 10 and 11 will still be required to continue working their Portfolios as part of their graduation program requirements.
The information from the Ministry to date indicates the following:
· Grade 12 students who complete their Grad Portfolios receive four credits and can choose to have the percent and letter grade reflected on their final transcripts and to be included in their overall Grade Point Average.
· Grade 12 students who choose not to complete their Grad Portfolios during the 2006/07 school year will receive Standing Granted credit. These students still receive four credits towards graduation but because Standing Granted does not carry a percentage or letter grade, this mark will not impact their overall Grade Point Average.
· Students still require 80 credits in order to graduate, including four credits for the Grad Portfolio.
· The Ministry of Education plans to bring together educators, students and parents to discuss the intended goals of the Graduation Portfolio and how to better support the implementation of this Graduation requirement. The hope is that this Review will be completed in the next couple of months and will provide us with some clear direction for the 2007/08 school year.
