PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
AGM AND ELECTIONS

April 30, 2008
7 PM - 9:00 PM


Attendance: Jacky Kane, Sue Mattice, Ravi Saulnier, Mairi McNamara, Deirdre Lintott, Darryl Ungar, Kristy Mcleod, Sadie Lee, Ryna Milne, Sandra Khan, Elaine Fontaine and Andrea Thomson


Business Agenda:

1. Call to order: 7.10pm
2. Welcome: Jacky opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to the PAC AGM and elections for a new Executive.
3. Additions/Changes to: Ryna Milne - Ovarian Caner Walk
4. Adopt minutes - March 28/08 meeting: Adopted by Sue Mattice and Jacky Kane
5. Elections for next years PAC Executive and Committees.


Old Business:

  • Reminders/Announcements:
-Saleema Noon is again doing her "Go Girl" seminar on July 9th and 10th for girls aged 10 - 13.  There is Discount for early registration. For more information, see PAC website.

  • Facility/Air Quality Update:  
- Admin is still waiting for District to allocate money for renovations.  Admin have submitted their requests and are hopeful of a positive response.

  • Dragon Wear Update.  
- Orders have been received - we had about 30 orders.  Brian is considering doing one more order in the Fall term for new students.

  • Spring Dance
- Has been set for Friday May 30th with a "groovyí"70s theme.  Everybody should bring an entree to share.  Notice will be in next school letter.  Next years grade 7 parents should be able to run a concession to raise money for Quebec.

  • Grade 7 Graduation:
- Sue -Year book almost complete, ready for printing and dance theme has been decided - everything underway.

New Business:

- Winners Walk Of Hope:  Ryna is looking for participants to form a team to take part in the walk to help raise awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer. The 5K walk will take place in Burnaby on Sept 7th, 2008.  The Dixon team will be called "Team Alisa" (in honour of our friend and Dixon parent Alisa Bowman). Anyone interested in taking part should register under team "TeamAlisa", Captain Ryna Levy- Milne at: "ttp://www.winners walkofhope.ca/~

 
Financial Report:  Mairi MacNamara reported as follows:
- Receipts for Spring Food Day orders were $2516.30 with disbursements for food day still to be paid.
- We paid $400 out of the budget for Hugh Boyd and Hugh McRoberts Scholarships.~ It was decided that next year we will transfer the scholarship to McMath from McRoberts due to the majority of our students now being at McMath.
- Bank balance as at April 30th: $11,268.90.


Administratorís Report:
Deirdre spoke on the following points:
- The Quebec Trip, for next year's grades 6 and 7, has been booked for Feb 6th - 13th 2009.  In previous years, parents have fundraised for the trip. They are allowed to do 2 functions that tap into the whole school community.  
- Next SPC meeting is on May 15thth
- Greening Project Fiona MacNicol needs volunteers to help supervise the kids planting next week.  Anyone able to help should contact Fiona.
- Deirdre will be attending the Canadian Principals conference in Newfoundland on 12th - 16th.
- Staffing: The District is cutting back and Dixon is losing a class; there will only be one class for Early French Immersion in September.  Therefore, there will only be one teacher who will teach French in the morning and English in the afternoon.
-  Enrolment for Kindergarten is steady - final figures are not yet known.
Kindergarten orientation will be on 21st May: The English at 9.15am - 10.15am and French at 1.30pm - 2.30pm
- Thank you to everyone who came to the Parent Appreciation Tea.

Darryl spoke on the following:
- A group from the Para-Olympic Committee will be coming to the school on 8th May - various events will be held throughout the day involving all the students
- District Track Meet is on May 20th at Minoru Arena.  Due to behavioral issues in the past, only students who are participating in events will be able to attend.  Students who attend practices, and demonstrate a commitment, will be able to go.  It is an all day event and parent drivers will be needed.  Selections will be made by the second week of May.  Please note that the event will be postponed if the weather is too wet.

50/50: Won by Ravi who generously donated her half to the Child Minders.
