Mission Statement

Richmond

The mission of the Richmond School Library Program is to ensure that all students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
This mission is accomplished by:
* providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
* providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas
* working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students

Dixon

In addition, the Dixon library program provides service to students and staff. in terms of:
* ethics - plagiarism, copyright, citing sources (bibliographies) and internet safety
* resource awareness - promotion of new and existing resources (reference, paper-based, media, community and online)
* literacy - content, media, recreational, format, search skills, notetaking and research frameworks
* project design
* collection management - seeking, selecting, organizing and updating available resources

Mme Marin
As teacher-librarian, one of my goals is to collaboratively plan and teach with classroom teachers.  Specifically, this includes:

o       having a clear programme and role definition
o       inviting teachers to collaborate and offering a wide variety of formats in which this can happen
o       being familiar with the latest provincial curriculum and the individual programs being offered in each classroom.
o       determining goals which reflect students’ needs
o       helping to teach the skills and strategies which lead to information literacy
o       placing an emphasis on literacy and information problem-solving
o       offering suggestions based on my own classroom experience
o       locating resources – in our own library, in other libraries, at the District Resource Centre and on the internet.
o       integrating literature and information skills into the curriculum.
o       instructing teachers and students in the use of electronic resources and tools
o       offering the library as a venue for research, presentations and collaborative teaching.  The library provides a greater physical space and can easily be transformed to reflect a theme or event.  Special projects which need a variety of resources can ‘happen’ more easily in the library.
