Accounting 11
This is a course in basic accounting principles. The course content provides basic knowledge and practical skills necessary to maintain financial records for a small business. Taught with a workbook and textbook, this course is an introduction to accounting concepts and is a very useful course for any student seeking entry-level employment in the accounting field as well as for those who wish to continue further study in accounting. Topics covered in the course include the general journal, general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, trial balance, financial statements (Income and Expense Statements and Balance Sheets), adjustments, worksheets, and closing entries. Students use MS Word and learn to use the numeric keypad and MS Excel to complete accounting projects.

Accounting 12 (443) (ACC 12) - Prerequisite: AC 11
This course stresses the practical application of the principles taught in Accounting 11, using more advanced procedures and techniques. Accounting 12 enables students to use industry standard computer software, MYOB (Mind Your Own Business) AccountEdge and systems to analyze and solve accounting problems and to produce accounting reports. Emphasis is on the work past the trial balance. This is a useful course for any student who expects to go directly into employment in business. Those students who intend to complete a university business degree, college business diploma or a professional accounting degree are strongly advised to take this course. This course meets the Applied Skills 11 requirement.
Financial Accounting 12 (447) (FA 12) -AC 11 recommended
This course is intended for students who may not have had a previous accounting course but who wish to pursue post secondary studies in accounting, finance, business management or commerce. Financial Accounting provides an overview of the accounting cycle from journalizing, posting, trial balance through to adjustments and financial statements. Students will also be given instruction on the MYOB (Mind Your Own Business) AccountEdge and Excel software packages. The knowledge gained in this course will also be useful to those students who expect to go directly into employment in business. This course meets the Applied Skills 11 requirement. |
