Economics 12 (438) (EC 12)
It is difficult to pick up a newspaper, turn on the television, or listen to the radio news without encountering economic facts, interpretations, and opinions. Economic information surrounds us daily in our role as consumers, workers, business owners and citizens of society. The study of economics is based on making choices and decisions about how we spend our money, how we earn money, and how we save money to improve our standard of living. Economics 12 provides students the opportunity to discuss the contributions of business and to evaluate the world with a critical eye to understand how the world operates, distributes income, and creates wealth. We examine the role of the local, municipal, provincial and federal governments, and analyze how members of the school boards, city council, and legislative representatives are leaders in our community who provide services and regulate economic endeavours. Field trips, guest speakers, newspaper and magazine articles, and interactive group projects support the excitement in this course. NOTE: This course is accepted by Simon Fraser University as an entrance requirement under List 3 (social sciences group).
