HOME ECONOMICS -- ARTS & CRAFTS

Textiles - Arts and Crafts Level I: Grade 9 (137),Grade 10 (237) (HEG10)
Textiles -Arts and Crafts may be the elective for you as no previous experience or craft skills are necessary. Examples of possible craft projects undertaken include: fabric painting, candle making, holiday decorations appliqué, machine quilting, fabric frames and boxes, and stitchery skills. The emphasis is on personal and decorative craft skills so if you have a talent and/or interest in this area, sign up! Although certain materials are provided through the course budget a course fee of $20.00 helps pay for consumables and students will be required to supply the majority of their own materials. Certain aspects of the Arts and Design, Career and Educational Planning and Information Technology Focus areas (components of the new Graduation Portfolio) will be covered.

Textiles - Arts and Crafts 11/12 (337) (YTAC 11)
Students with no previous background in TAC or those who have taken TAC 9 or 10 will enjoy the many textiles projects and crafts to be offered in this course. The emphasis in this course is on projects that are related to clothing and/or the home. Students will be given an opportunity to experiment with special techniques and methods of fabric construction, colour application, and design. Some of the projects that will be undertaken involve needlework, quilting, decorative home fashions and personal gifts. Examples of possible projects include dried flower arrangements, ‘quillows’ (a pillow that folds out into a quilt), beeswax candles, stuffed teddy bears and bunnies. Possible field experiences include trips to various craft shows in the Lower Mainland area. This is a locally Developed Course. Although certain materials are provided through the course budget a course fee of $20.00 helps pay for consumables and students will be required to supply the majority of their own materials.
