BUSINESS EDUCATION -- INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Literacy in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is defined as the ability to obtain knowledge through investigation, study, instruction or transmission of information by means of digital media technology. Becoming literate involves finding, gathering and assessing information using electronic means as well as developing the knowledge, skills and ability to effectively use and problem-solve with the current technology. ICT literacy also involves the skills to learn and use new technologies that are developed to address the real-world problems and activities faced in day-to-day living.

Information Technology 9/10:
Grade 9 – (145)
Grade 10 – (245) (INT 10)

The subject material will include business basics (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point), Image manipulation (Gimp), high level cross platform scripting language (SuperCard for sound, speech and animation). We will also be using the Internet on a regular basis for research purposes. The final unit is iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iTunes and/or Garage Band). The ability to type is useful, but not required.

Information Computer Technology 11 (345) (ICT 11)
This is an introductory course in computers. The emphasis of the course is computer literacy and effective use of the computer. ICT 11 is an Internet interactive course. The Internet will be used extensively for research in each segment of the course. Among the major units will be the construction of an ePortfolio web page (HTML Programming). Other topics of study may include: image manipulation (Gimp) and an object oriented programming language with a graphic interface (REALbasic). The final unit is iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iTunes and/or Garage Band). All lab work will be done on eMac computers, but most software is cross platform, and the course is designed to be interactive with your computer at home. This course meets the Applied Skills 11 requirement.

Information Computer Technology 12 (445) (ICT 12)
Prerequisite: ICT 11
This survey course expands on the material covered in ICT 11. ICT 12 is an Internet interactive course and will cover web design beyond the basics. The HTML component will involve using Macromedia Dreamweaver to create an ePortfolio. Macromedia Flash animations will be used to enhance web pages, and programming in flash will be a major component of the course. The graphic component will involve the use of Adobe Photoshop CS2. ICT 12 will have a video editing unit utilizing Final Cut Express. The programming unit will be an introduction to Java, covering concepts like graphics and decisions. All lab work will be done on eMac computers, but most software is cross platform.
