PE DEPARTMENTAL GOALS |
| To assist students in developing positive attitudes towards lifelong participation in physical activity. |
| To help students better understand, evaluate, improve and maintain their personal levels of fitness. |
| To promote within each student a positive attitude towards maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships with their peers and the
PE staff. |
| To fully involve students of varying abilities and interests in a variety of physical activities. |
| To assist students in developing a personally effective and efficient range of motor skills. |
| To have students experience using a variety of sport and recreational facilities within the local area. |
PE PROGRAM STRUCTURE and CONTENT
Programs at each junior grade level are divided up into
a series of activity units. Units for grade 8 and 9 are
7-8 classes in length. In grade 10 units tend to be shorter,
5-6 classes, allowing for a greater variety of activities
to be instructed. Within a semester, a number of field-trips
are taken which are optional. Grade 8 and senior high PE
classes are co-ed., while gr. 9 and 10 are segregated into
male and female classes.
GRADE 8 COMPONENT
Core Activities:
Active Health, social dance, wrestling, weight training(set
program), running program, co-operative games.
Other Activities:
Soccer, floor hockey, European Handball, lacrosse, softball,
ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, badminton, pickleball.
Journal Writing/Social Responsibility:
All students will keep a PE journal. They will compete small
assignments within the journal related to what they are
learning during the year.
GRADE 9 COMPONENT
Core Activities:
Social Dance, wrestling(mat only), wt. training(partially
set program), running unit, softball, co-operative games.
Other Activities:
Flag football, ultimate, soccer, hockey, European Handball,
lacrosse, basketball, speedball, badminton, rugby, frisbee
golf, modern dance(girls only), orienteering.
Optional Field-Trips:
Bowling, snow shoeing, curling.
GRADE 10 COMPONENT
Core Activities:
Social Dance, wrestling(standing), wt. training(build own
program), running unit, modern dance(girls), softball.
Other Activities:
Basketball, badminton, speedball, soccer, hockey, pickle
ball, volleyball, ultimate, frisbee golf, flag football,
lacrosse, tennis, field-hockey, rugby.
Optional Field-Trips:
Broomball, curling, golf, bowling.
PE 11/12 CONTENT
Emphasizes the preparation for an active and healthy lifestyle
after you leave school. Students will participate and develop
skills in a variety of physical activities which have the
potential for lifelong involvement. Activities will use
both the school and community facilities.
Potential Activities:
kayaking, hiking, in-line skating, self-defense, archery,
golf range/golfing, yoga & camping, Centennial Beach day,
horse back riding wind surfing, sailing, curling, billiards.
Social Responsibility (6-12 hours):
Students organize and lead a grade 7 fun day for our feeder
schools, organize and assist in the milk run and a grade
8 intramural soccer program to build on our school community.

EVALUATION:
Will be done on a daily basis with a 5 point scale based on A.P.E.[attitude, particpation and effort(rating of very poor to excellent)] and through cognitive(test)
and psychomotor(skills) testing.
Grade 8:
- 40% Attitude/Participation/Effort (A.P.E.) & Responsibility
- 20% Performance Testing
- 20% Written Tests
- 20% Journal Writing
Grade 9:
- 50% Attitude/Participation/Effort (A.P.E.) & Responsibility
- 30% Written Tests & Assignments
- 20% Skills Testing
Grade 10:
- 60% Attitude/Participation/Effort (A.P.E.) & Responsibility
- 40% Written Tests/Assignments
Grade 11/12:
- 40% Attitude/Participation/Effort (A.P.E.)
- 25% Field-Trips:Minor and Major
- 10% Written Assignments
- 20% Social Responsibility:Building School Community
- 5% Oral Class Tests
