Comparative Civilizations 12 (440) (CCN 12) - Prerequisite: Social Studies 11
Comparative Civilizations 12 deals with the history of cultures. The aim of this course is to enable students to enrich their awareness of other cultures through the comparative study of various civilizations. These civilizations will be selected from the following: Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Roman Empire, Ancient China, Ancient India, Feudal Japan, The Byzantine Empire, the Islamic Civilization, Medieval Europe, the Renaissance, the Romantic Period, and Indigenous Cultures of the Americas. The course emphasizes cultural rather than political history. It will also focus on the painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and dance of the specific time periods. Imagination, enjoyment and critical thinking are the key elements of this course.
Law 12 (433) (LAW 12) - Prerequisite: Social Studies 11
Law 12 provides students with a basic understanding of how the law applies to them and the skills to seek the answers to legal questions. Students study various aspects of the law such as Canada’s legal system, criminal law, and civil law (including torts, marriage, divorce, child law, contracts, wills, civil rights, human rights). Active class participation, guest speakers, mock trials and visits to courtrooms enhance the program
