Parents are reminded that Friday February 17 is a district wide Pro D Day. Enjoy the long weekend!
The next parents meeting is Monday February 20 at 6:45 pm in the staff room. All Steves parents and guardians are welcome. Please come and join us in a casual atmosphere to chat about our school events, programs, concerns and questions. Child minding is provided free of charge by our senior students.
Draft minutes of the January meeting will be posted when available on the 'Minutes' page of this website.
If you have any questions, concerns, kudos or topics for future PAC meetings, please contact any of our Executive as listed on the 'About' page of this website.
Special guest speaker Arzeena Hamir will join us on Monday, February 20. Ms. Hamir is a columnist at the Richmond Review and Coordinator of the Richmond Food Security Society. She'll talk about the Farm to School program, which connects schools and local farms to serve healthy meals in cafeterias, improve nutrition, provide agriculture, health and nutrition educational opportunities and support local farmers.
It is important to remember what 'PAC' is. The Steves Parent Advisory Council (PAC) includes EVERY parent and guardian of a Steves student. A common mistake is to think of PAC as simply the executive or key volunteers. In fact, no matter what our involvement is in the school, we are all equal members of the PAC.
For many parents, involvement means supporting our children's learning at home. This is just as important as looking after PAC finances, chairing PAC meetings or popping popcorn. We are all of equal value, with the common goal of helping our children treasure their years at Steves!
Thanks to all who supported this important fundraiser. Approximately $3,000 was raised! Parents will consider how best to use these funds at upcoming PAC meetings.
QSP magazine orders can be placed anytime online at QSP, using school code '2755'. We continue to benefit from orders placed online.
The calendar for the 2011-2012 school year has been published, with holidays and Pro D days listed. The calendar was emailed to Steves families and is available here for your information.
Last year's PAC Financial Summary is posted here. If you have questions about it, please contact our former treasurer Erika via email.
The Ministry of Education produces an annual report on class size and composition for each school and district. The 2010/11 report for Manoah Steves has now been made available and is posted here for your information.
How much time should our children spend on homework? Manoah Steves homework guidelines are posted here. If you have questions, please talk with your child's teacher.
If you have comments, questions or concerns, please talk to any of the PAC Executive (contact info is on the notice board near the office). You may also reach us via the PAC email or by leaving a message at the school office.
For updates, comments or to report a technical problem, please email Marianne Hardie.
Parents support students, staff and each other by being active in the school and our children's learning. Everyone's help is appreciated at any time! Please see the 'Volunteers' page for more information.
