Subject: [gccaall] Win a date with history (sent on behalf of Kelly Rigg)

If you had two minutes to speak to the world’s leaders, what would you say?

You can be the sponsor that empowers the voice of youth to inspire global change. The GCCA (www.tcktcktck.org) and Climate Nexus (http://climatenexus.org/) invite you to co-sponsor an open, online competition to bring the voice of youth to deliver their message live to world leaders at the Earth Summit in Rio.

The Contest. “Win a Date with History” is a contest that calls on young people across the world to record and submit short speeches online in multiple websites and platforms that will urge, inspire, and ultimately move global leaders attending the Earth Summit in Rio in June to take immediate action.  Inspired by Severn Suzuki's famous speech at the 1992 Earth Summit, contestants will be asked to reflect on "The Future We Want," in keeping with the UN’s theme for Rio.

The Process. Participants upload speeches of approximately 2 minutes in length on DateWithHistory.org (French and Spanish versions also available, and Portuguese to follow). Alternatively, participating partner organizations can directly embed the contest on their own websites.  Once the submission period has closed, the (three) most popular speeches from each of six regions,[1] as determined by the number of likes or votes, will be shortlisted as finalists.  A jury made up of prominent individuals, young people and partner organizations from around the world (including Severn Suzuki) will vote on the shortlist to elect an ultimate winner based on pre-determined criteria (passion, persuasiveness, etc.)

The Prize. The winner and a guest (parent or guardian in the case of minors) will have the chance to come to Rio* to deliver the speech in person. Regional runners-up will have their speeches featured prominently on participating partners’ websites and in promotional material around the Summit. In the event the winner is unable to travel to Rio, the winning video will be promoted on the website and the first eligible runner up will be invited to deliver his/her speech in person.

Timing. The contest will launch on 6* March 2012 and close on 6 May 2012.

Partnership.  A financial contribution is not essential. Date with History partners must simply commit to:

·         Feature the contest prominently on your website (either embedded, or linked to the contest microsite)

·         Actively promote the contest through your communications and social media channels

·         Encourage your members and fans to enter and vote during March and April 2012.

·         Promote the videos voted by the public as finalists once the competition ends and prior to Rio +20

Promotional materials will be provided to partners in an unbranded format. Partners will be permitted to incorporate these materials into their own promotional activities around the Summit. Videos submitted to the contest will be tagged according to topic, and partners will have permission to make use of these videos in their own Earth Summit-related campaigns.

Co-Sponsorship.  Partners able to make a financial (or in-kind) contribution to cover costs will be featured prominently on the Date With History site and on all contest promotional materials, including videos. The benefits of co-sponsorship include:

·         Exposure to global audiences through the online, social media, promotional and film materials.

·         The opportunity to nominate a jury member from your organization

·         An exclusive interview with the winner (and possibly other finalists depending on their ages) for use in your own communications.

·         Participation in any events in Rio associated with the contest.

If you are interested in partnering or co-sponsoring, please contact Manish Joshi (manish.joshi@tcktcktck.org) as soon as possible. We will provide a partner pack with details on how to embed the contest into your own website, along with a promotional video, on or around 1 March. This will enable you to fully participate in the launch.

*Subject to confirmation from the UN that a speaking slot in Rio can be provided.

Best wishes,

Kelly
