About Us

Library and Information Services (LIS) is part of the Richmond School District's Learning Services Department and is committed to providing quality learning resources and information services to teachers, administrators, school library staff and students, in keeping with the District mandate to enable students and encourage life-long learning. Library and Information Services is comprised of the District Resource Centre and Library Administration Centre. Library and Information Services is under the guidance of Gordon Powell, Co-ordinator of Libraries and Information Services.

The District Resource Centre (DRC) contains videos, DVDs, CDs, reference books, professional and technical journals, novel sets, science kits, musical instruments, photographic equipment, electronic resources, and realia to support curriculum set by the provincial government. Staff provide circulation, reference, acquisitions, cataloguing and technical services, as well as training and database management.

The Library Administration Centre (LAC) provides cataloguing and classification services, inventory support, training, technical troubleshooting and general operations guidance for all District libraries. Staff implement and test new library and textbook products as required. Acquisitions and materials processing for schools and special district projects is also provided. LAC maintains over 250,000 Union Catalogue records, a number of acquisitions databases and various instructional manuals.
