What We Do in Math:
Our Math curriculum is guided by the B.C. Provincial Learning Outcomes, which are content standards for our education system. These learning outcomes indicate what students are expected to know and do in grades five.

These are the following strands of Mathematics:

1) NUMBERS (Number Concepts, Number Operations)

2) PATTERN AND RELATIONS (Patterns, Variables and Equations)

3) SPACE AND SHAPE (Measurement, 3-D Objects and 2-D Shapes,
Transformations)

4) STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY (Data Analysis, Chance and Uncertainty

In Math, students at this grade level are expected to recall basic facts, such as times tables, with speed and accuracy. If your child is not able to do this, it is important to practise this at home regularly.

How Students are Marked:
Students are evaluated on their participation in class, their performance on drills, tests, and performance tasks, as well as completion and correction of daily homework. Studying for tests, and asking the teacher for extra help when necessary is an expectation at this grade level. Often there is ample opportunity to receive additional support in Math, both during and outside of class.
