Welcome to Ms. Rolph's page!

On May 1st, nine Westwind Elementary School students presented their Historica Projects at the Richmond Delta Heritage Fair at the Richmond Museum.

The students started in November, working with myself and our Resource Teacher, Phyllis Lightfoot. After they decided on their topics we met weekly, teaching them how to find reliable sources on the Internet, research in books and encyclopedias, develop subtopics, take notes, and develop those notes into paragraphs.  IMG_1348.jpg
In early Spring the students began spending more and more time  before, during and after school, editing their work, checking sources, writing bibliographies, self reflections and more.

They decorated their display boards and added their creative components. The final polish was added when they developed their oral presentations, wrote cue cards and practiced presenting their work to other students.

All that work paid off at the Heritage Fair at the Richmond Museum, May 1st.  IMG_1344.jpg

Liz Yeung received a judges award for her project about Women's Labour Rights in Canada.

Deborah and Barbara Peng received the Laurier LaPierre award for their project about the development of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

IMG_1343.jpgKate Ward, with her project entitled "Banished to Safety" about WWll children's' evacuation to Canada from London was selected as the Richmond Delta representative to go to Ottawa's National Historica Fair.

All nine students  worked extremely hard and we are very proud of their accomplishments. They enjoyed the Historica Fair and have learned important skills that will help them in their future education.
After the fair was over, several students still wanted to keep coming to meet with us at lunch, before and after school. They missed all that hard work and camaraderie!
